South Kent: Classbook.com ‘missing link’ for boarding schools

For boarding schools struggling to find ebooks to fulfill a curriculum, Classbook.com is the “missing link,” according to Gonzalo Garcia, director of technology, marketing and communications at South Kent School in South Kent, CT.

Garcia presented two sessions recently to standing-room-only crowds as part of the Connecticut Association of Boarding Schools’ Learning and Teaching with the iPad event.

South Kent, a leader in the field of iPad adaptation, launched its program in Fall 2011 and boasts a 92 percent digital adoption rate with textbooks across all grade levels.

Garcia said many schools that recently launched digital classroom programs are struggling to transition from hard-copy to digital books.

Classbook.com is their one-stop shop, he told participants, which included representatives from more than 20 private schools.

“When it comes to ebooks, one app or reader is not the solution,” Garcia said. “You have to be open to all of them.” That’s how Classbook.com is able to adapt so easily to changes in technology.

Classbook.com assesses every school individually, determines specific needs and sets up a customized transition and implementation program.
